    Live Talent

    WEB DESIGNER, BRAND CONSULTANT

As a member of the creative team at LiveTalent, a Vancouver-based startup dedicated to connecting businesses with local digital marketers, I played a pivotal role in revitalizing the company’s online presence. Tasked with revamping the existing generic website and spearheading a rebranding initiative, I embarked on a journey to conceptualize and design a website that would not only reflect the company’s new identity but also resonate with its target audience. With close collaboration with the co-founders, we agreed upon a vision for the rebranding and set out to create a visually captivating and user-friendly website that would effectively communicate LiveTalent’s value proposition. Although the company unfortunately no longer exists, the experience of leading this creative endeavor was invaluable, and the skills and insights gained continue to shape my approach to design and branding projects.

    Sketches

As with any design process, my journey with LiveTalent’s website revamp began with a crucial step: sketching. I meticulously examined the existing website, dissecting its layout, functionalities, and overall structure. Armed with a pencil and paper, I started sketching out rough drafts, capturing the essence of the current website while envisioning the transformations necessary to align with our rebranding goals. These initial sketches served as the foundation, allowing me to visualize the potential improvements and iterate on various design concepts. By starting with this hands-on approach, I was able to lay the groundwork for a revamped website that would not only meet but exceed our expectations.

    Reflections

Volunteering at LiveTalent provided me with invaluable leadership experience and the opportunity to collaborate closely with both a fellow designer and a real client. This experience empowered me to confidently express my professional opinions and advocate for design decisions that I believed would best serve the company’s goals. Initially, the CEOs expressed a preference for the website to be predominantly in shades of blue, which we incorporated into our initial design. However, upon seeing the coded version, we realized that the website lacked vibrancy and energy. Recognizing the need for an additional color to inject life into the design, we proposed this change to the CEOs, who were initially hesitant. Through effective communication and a steadfast belief in our design vision, we were able to convince them of the necessity and impact of this adjustment. Moreover, this experience taught me the importance of receiving and implementing criticism constructively, as we continuously refined our design based on feedback from both the client and our team. Overall, my time volunteering at LiveTalent not only honed my design skills but also equipped me with invaluable leadership, communication, and collaboration abilities that continue to serve me in my professional endeavors.
